The E. tent caterpillar invasion.

My dog found where they've been coming from and it is a tree that is coming up right at my houses foundation. I'm hoping if I rid this tree the caterpillars will follow suit. They are everywhere. Do they leave most landscape plants alone? I'll be very angry if they ruin the few plans I've got coming up that already seem later than usual.

No, they pretty much like to munch on chokecherry trees and the like. Get that tree out. If it's chokecherry, any taller than 4-5' and it's hard to remove. Your other plants should be just fine (at least from the tent caterpillars) If they're tent caterpillars, you should see the typical webby nest nearby.
