Purchasing Plug Flats Pros/Cons

I came across this site, North Carolina Farms, that offers the 105 plug flats of several different plants. I know that for some plants this would be overkill unless you are in some form of production. I wonder though, if you planned on using a particular plant in mass or as a border, if this would be a feasible solution.. purchasing a flat of plugs and growing them on in containers for a season or so to get full sized plants. Even considering the soil and upkeep required until it gets to a reasonable size, it seems like a significant amount of savings with a little cost in sweat. I think this place is located in Charlotte as well so I could actually go pick them up.

Of course.. there are always issues not thought about when considering any venture so I am wondering, has anyone done this and what was your impression. If you have considered it and have not done it, why not?
