Yes you should if you don't mulch heavily where you sow them. They will germinate during warm spells in the winter but don't worry - they are tough little buggers - once you sow them you will always have larkspur. I have not sown it for over 4 years now and this is what I have in just one garden - all the blue you see is larkspur.....

Looks great Lynn! I made the mistake of sowing them in Mid April. They are a few inches high, but I doubt they will last much longer in the heat that is about to make its way to NC.

That is such a charming garden, Lynn. I love what you've done. Is that bushy baptisia on the far right? And what is the large-leafed vine on the metal arbor? What do you grow on the triangular trellis?

PS 1 of the larkspur I sowed in April is about to flower! It is on very short stems, but it made it through 4 days of 100+ temps! YAY!

the large leaf thingy is actually one of those trash trees that grow at an amazing rate - shortly after that picture was taken we had cut it way back - we just use the trunk to hold a bird feeder and keep all the leaves cut back. We actually grow mandevilla on the metal arbor.

the triangle structure in the back will be covered with both morning glories and moonflower later in the summer - that corner did have gorgeous hollyhocks but I lost them all this winter - I have more started tho

yes that is baptisia but I want to move it - it takes up so much precious room in the cottage garden - it has about a 5ft spread now
