climbing hydrangea

I have a wisteria(and i think it is the asian variety) growing on a pergola that we built. The problem is that it grows so fast and vigourous that it is taking over the area. It is driving me crazy with the ground runners and the runners comming up between my decking boards. I am going to cut it down and i have thought about replacing it with CLimbing Hydrangea. Will this vine be another headache also. Is it easy to keep contained? Does it invade every little crack and crevice such as wisteria? My late husband built this pergola and deck and I don't want it destroyed by this vine. However, I enjoy some shade while sitting under the pergola. It is my favorite place to rest after a days work and have a glass of wine.
