I'm starting to look at the weeds in the meadow bed and say to myself: Don't weed that one -- it'll be dormant in another few weeks and think of all the work I'll have saved myself. Either way it's going to disappear from my immediate consciousness.

I try to tell myself that, too, sometimes. Other times, i just can't help but dig in & pull it all out. When i should get it done is before it sets seed, but it's so much easier to pull when it gets rangier later in the season. It has been an amazing spring! I'm loving all this rain.

I was walking around with my dog this evening and I must say, I have exceptions to my earlier post. Saw a patch of stilt grass and the response is automatic. I swear I'm going to rid myself of it, even if it takes a lifetime. I wish I could teach my dog to attack it.

The best time to weed is after the rain when the soil is soaked and the weeds pop right out with roots attached. So, I've been thankful not only for the drought relief, but the relief with easier weeding chores.

After a rain is also when I go out and pinch the ice plant to get sprigs to stick in the wet ground. It roots that easily.

Unfortunately none of my weeds ever seem to go dormant. A meadow is a different story though.

Stilt grass is a total *itch. Sigh. That's the worst weed of all time. It thrives where nothing else well, even under the deep shade of big established shrubs. I've seen it get 4' high to get to the sun.
