I just snipped all the funky datura seedpods off

We got some rain this last week and suddenly all the spent blossoms of the volunteer datura are making these round, spiky seedpods.

Thought blooming was over and I was ready to pull this plant out but the rain has it developing dozens of new blossoms.

It tipped over to the ground in the rain (I hoped it would kill itself) but now it just faces up to the sun.

Why is it the plant you don't want thrives just to spite you?
