I don't know for sure but it looks like it could be in the solanum family based on the berries & flowers. If it's jerusalem cherry like i suspect it's poisonous, if pretty so don't sample the berries. BTW, your image didn't embed the way you wanted- i had to copy & paste to see your pic. Anyhoot....it's a beauty of a shrub, the berries are green orange then reddish like a cherry tomato. Poisonous I reckon too.

I did a search on NC trees and shrubs and this certainly does like exactly like Jerusalem cherry. I have not seen anything else that resembles it.

I'll take this as an ID until anyone can distinguish otherwise!

I did also see recipes for the berries of this bush. Apparently the young berries are mildly poisonous, I reckon if you ate a big handful of them it would make you sick. Other than that I read the ripe berries are OK. I wouldnt eat a ripe one anyways!

I don't think it is a Jerusalem cherry, if you post this in the Name that Plant forum I am sure someone over there can tell you what it is... I have seen this before I just can't remember what it was.
But do post it over there on the name that plant forum...those folks are great at plant IDs.

Solanum pseudocapsicum - Jerusalem Cherry. They can look different in different growing conditions. Very hardy and perennial for me - stays green all winter and pops up anywhere in the yard. Though they are poisonous, a few people out there have tasted them and lived to tell about it. I wouldn't, that group of plants is famous for hurting people.
