Seeding grass on clay in newly cleared land

Hello, I live in the Francis Marion National Forest region of eastern South Carolina in Jamestown, and I just had 1/2 acre of heavily wooded forest cleared off my property, and all of the debris and braches, etc was buried in very large and deep excacvated holes in the far back corners of the property. All of the leftover dirt from the digs was used to spread over the newly cleared land to level and finish it off. Unfortunatley, all of this "dirt" was actually rich dense clay from deep underground. Now my cleared lot has 6"-14" of clay on top of the bullzozed forest floor. I want to plant centipede grass on this 1/2 acre to match my adjacent lawn, but I am afraid that the clay is not going to provide the best scenario for the germination. Will I have to haul in many truck-loads of topsoil dirt and spread it around to be able to plant grass seed? If so, what kinds of steps do I need to take to turn my new choppy clay ground into turf-growing soil? Thanks...
