new lawn, what to plant?

I'm planning to install a new lawn this fall. The area is part shade, somewhat amended soil. I think fescue will do well, but thought that doing a mixed lawn might be more ecologically friendly. Has anyone done a mixed lawn- grass/clover in this area? What are your experiences? Any other suggestions on what plants to use?

Not on purpose. Seems like a hard mix to avoid no matter what you plant.
