On Dave's Garden, there is someone called "ncdirtdigger from Waxhaw, NC" that posted in Feb 2008 that he/she highly recommend it and has had it for four years. Says it is semi-evergreen.
I've thought of growing it but wondered how it would do in the Carolinas since it is a South African plant. It is a very pretty plant. J.L. Hudson also has seeds for a better price.
Interesting. I'll have to check out the seed site and Dave's Garden. I have read that it doesn't tolerate hot humid summers and likes to be near water. i am thinking of planting it on the edge of my new rain garden.
I've seen them at many of the botanic gardens. Most of the time when the plant is in full bloom only some of the flowers look good, the rest of the "wand" looks ratty. When you have a stem that might be 4 feet long and it has over a dozen one inch flowers on it but only two or three are open at one time - it is not the most showy look to me. I have never seen them in person look as good as they do in catalogs or books. I would grow them but I wouldn't make them the focal point of my garden, they're just not that flashy.
