Larkspurs should be sown in August...course if no rain (as here), it would be mostly in vain.

However, they do germinate and overwinter as a small rosette, if conditions are favorable.

reseeding annuals.. sow themselves.. just after they bloom ... eh???

so if you can not find info directly related to sowing.. look for flowering time ...

all that said.. its fall ... just toss them around ... or do what you may ...

the only real issue is vermin ... finding and eating the seed ... so i would spread them a bit.. rather than laying out a banquet ...

In 7b you might want to spring for snapdragon plants which will bloom most of fall and early winter. Enjoy the color.
Violas also although the deer and cottontails make short work of those as they browse.
Ken makes an excellent point regarding the 'vermin'. They, plus the scavenging birds of winter will eat much of what you thought you sowed or disturb the soil so the seeds fall deeper than intended and never come up.
Guess that's why Mother Nature has flowers making so many seeds.

Most fall sown seeds for next Spring or Summer flowers depend on sunlight to germinate so you can't mulch over them or allow falling tree leaves to cover them. Now is the time to do it. Most of them form tiny clumps of plants while the root system gets going, then they shoot up into a normal sized plant once things warm up a bit next year. Larkspur and Poppies won't want to be transplanted so you do best to sow them where you want them.

Once you have larkspurs you'll probably continue to have them. In my garden the seeds are not yet sprouting, so I think it is not too late to sow them. Usually I have to thin them. The little seedlings are very hardy.

My Helen Mount violas are barely sprouting....maybe it was too warm at the end of August? I am debating whether to try again or see if they start sprouting better since it is cooler.
