i bought a load of soil (very sandy) and composted turkey manure locally (wilmington nc) - it stains my hands so bad you have to use a scrub brush to get it off and tomatoes and peppers do not grow in it. I am looking for possible reasons and solutions. thanks - carl

RE: compost

carl, why don't you take a sample to your local extension agent and have it tested. That would be the simplest way to determine what needs doing. Could be the turkey manure is still too hot and the compost mixture lacks the necessary microbes to further break it down to a form useable by the plants you want to raise.
