Can someone please identify this plant?

My mother just died this week and someone sent this beautiful plant to the funeral home. I have brought it home to keep but I don't know what kind of plant this is and where to keep it...inside or outside. Is it an annual/tropical, or perennial? I would like to keep this for years to come Thanks ahead for any help.

RE: Can someone please identify this plant?

Sorry to hear about your mother.

These plumes of flowers are characteristic of the genus Celosia. They are annuals and tender (zone 10-11) perennials. The perennials tend to be taller - so given the amount of foliage in the picture this could be Celosia spicata. Another popular species is the annual Celosia plumosa, which has several varieties of very vivid flower colors.
