castor bean hitchiked from spring swap

I have a lovely castor bean plant, with seeds rapidly maturing in their prickly packages. I was not aware that I had it until about a month ago; it must have been in a pot of something I got at Raleigh or High Point spring swap.

I am enjoying it. Thanks. However -- I know the seed disperse quickly, and I am wondering if I should "defuse" the time bomb now. I don't want a bunch of castor beans coming up. Also I know they are poisonous and I have some concern for my dog and cat.

So: 1) how poisonous are they, really? and

2) should I be concerned about their invading the nearby woods!? I am a native plant protector/freak.

My gut instinct is to nip 'em in the bud right now, but I am enjoying the show; whaddayallthink?
