Wintering Copper Iris?

Does anyone here have copper iris (fulva). If so how do you winter yours? Most sites I've visited say it's only hardy to zone 8, but I know that can be pushed with a lot of plants. Some say they leave it in water as long as the pond doesn't freeze solid.

Mine winters just fine out in the garden without any extra mulch or protection.

I had mine in a pot outside for at least a year and it was fine.

Mine has been in a pot for three years. I just leave it out. It never occurred to me that it might be in any way tender. Denise
