Big Freeze Coming Next Week

The local weather forecasters here in Raleigh said tonight that low temperatures next Monday and Tuesday nights could drop to near 20 degrees. That means its time to apply heavy mulch to Angel Trumpet, elephant ears and all those other marginally hardy perennials still in the ground. I will be covering with plastic the enclosure that I built out of compost with tender perennials in the middle.

RE: Big Freeze Coming Next Week

Gee, someone gave me a beauitiful Hexastylis for Christmas, and I haven't planted it yet. Should I hold off until we have a few warmer days? Usually I plant all year unless the ground is frozen, but I am not sure where this plant has been previously. Any advice out there?
