More on Growing Vegetables in NC During Wintertime

Ralph Whisnant

I found the following link in the December 2008 Carolina Gardener to an article by Dr. John Wilson, MD, about growing veggies under Remay and plastic in Black Mtn. near Asheville. It is almost a zone colder there than here, so we can probably grow everything they do plus a few more marginal greens. Last year I did not use plastic, only the floating row cover (Remay or equivalent). To harvest Broccoli, cabbage, etc during the winter, the extra layer of plastic is definitely needed. www.carolinagardener.com/magazine/specials/december_articles.phpNote that they also used their system to plant corn, beans, etc., a month earlier than normal.
