Meyer Lemon

My meyer lemon was brought inside just before the nights got into the 40's in the fall. It flowered and began to get many lemons. I was being careful not to water too much because of the overwatering advice and lower light/cool temperatures, but, it seems I let it go too long, for it lost all of its bottom leaves. My lime lost a few leaves but was not being stressed by fruiting at the time. I picked off all the lemons and remaining flowers. It has sat, doing nothing for a couple of months now, but as soon as the days began getting longer it started getting new buds. It seems every leaf node and area that would be a leaf node, if it had leaves, is getting new flowers, but there are no new leaves. Should it be cut back to encourage new leaves? I am planning to pick off all the new flowers so as not to stress it more and to let it regain it's strength. Any suggestions? Thanks so very much.
