lost leaves and flowers after transplanting

I recently purchased a Meyer lemon tree , it began flowering almost immediately in the container it was shipped in . The tree was purchased as a surprise gift and due to the transportation I did not transplant . After about two weeks the tree looked great with a lot of buds and flowers on it I transported it then transplanted it in a container using the recommended soil and fertilizer with drainage it called for. It began loosing the buds then some leaves as they said it is common. The tree now is loosing leaves rapidly and I'm concerned. Any ideas on why or is this normal. Thanks

Well, without photos, it's really hard to tell you if this is related to transplant shock, or if something more serious is going on. As well as what potting medium you used, size of the pot, how you applied the fertilizer and what fertilizer, etc. If you can provide more info and several photos, that would help us to help you :-)

Too much water plus low light level could be the culprits. Don't fertilize until growth begins is a good rule.
