What rootsock does 4Winds use now?

Posted by cebury (My Page) on

About 2 years ago I got wind ;-) of 4 Winds Citrus in CA considering switching from Flying Dragon. They said trees approaching 20 yrs were just "failing". Another poster recently said he phoned and they were being evasive about what rootstock they are using now.

Anyone know the latest? I'm going to call myself but would like to get as much info (gossip?) as possible first.

Thanks

RE: What rootsock does 4Winds use now?

In trial and errors over the years, and I mean years, it has been discovered that this rootstock has not been compatable with the grafdted portion in which the root stock over grows the "scion" on certain varieties.

It can choke at the grafted portion, and as a result the tree stays too small. It is also be called "benching".

These results have not been satisfactory to the growers themselves, and to the actual customer of which is 4Winds primary concern.

The root stock out grows the actual grafted portion causing it to stay very small, and grow very slowly.

To current, they use up to 6 different rootstocks and use a different one depending on the variety of the citrus plant need.

If you call them, they will gladly tell you what rootstcok is used for what tree you request.

E-mailing them at Customer Support will gladley be answered also by Kerie or John, and you will get the exact info you need.

Mike..:-)
