aphids... you can wash them off; and check for ants. If you have aphids, you have ants. Control the ants and you control the aphids.

I have the Terro liquid baits. Should that suffice for now? Can I strap it to the tree and let them have at it? I'll look at Tanglefooting the tree as well but I don't want to endanger the lizards.

My mango has ants as well but on a much larger scale. Will need to look into large scale ant eradication. Any pointers would be appreciated.

The Terro and tanglefoot will not affect the aphids, and the aphids are at the root of the problem. Start by hosing the tree down with a strong stream of water to blast the aphids off the leaves. Citrus, especially key limes are very tough and, for the amount of damage you have, I suspect there may be other issues such as low light, poor fertilization or over watering. A strong, healthy tree can usually resist most insect attacks.

Thanks, Beach. I hosed off the tree and blasted the suckers off. There is a very evident ant situation on the tree. I placed a liquid ant bait at the base of the tree right on the ant highway and within 10 minutes they had sounded the alarm. They are attacking it vigorously. So at least the ants are being dealt with.

As for the health of the tree, I came here first with this tree is not so good shape, and followed the advice from the pros here. You can see my original thread below outlining my issues if interested. This was in August '13 and she's doing much better since then with fertilizer, Spinosad, and Bayer treatments.
