I have four Satsuma of different varieties and three of them are in pots. The tree that has grown the best is an Owari Satsuma in a large ceramic pot that is a about 1.5 times larger than the one you currently have. This one is a pretty good sized plant now. I also have some in about the size pot you have and they are a good bit smaller.

Once the blossoms open they are very fragrant and will truly fill a large indoor or outdoor space.

I made some changes to my tree care this year that have really helped them. The first thing I did was switch to Foliage Pro (FP) in the fall. Prior to that I was using a traditional citrus and fruit fertilizer I got at a local nursery. The plants appear to be doing much better with the new product. I bought my FP on Ebay and a little goes a long way. The next thing I did with the Satsumas was to leave them outside all winter in an unheated greenhouse (zone 8). Since they have been outside, they have suffered almost zero winter leaf drop and are covered with new growth and buds.

I can attest that they will truly take the temps down into the lower 20's with no problems at all.

Thanks, arkberry, for the info. Glad to hear the blooms become fragrant! Am really looking forward to the scent. It acts like a positive reinforcer for all the work we put into a plant. So, the FP sounds like a good thing. Do you use it about once a month? And - glad to hear that their hardiness lives up to the hype ;-)

I have been using FP all winter about every two weeks at a reduced dose. Here is my Inground satsuma in about a foot of snow at Christmas. A few leaves are a bit beat up, but all is still good.
