Too pricey for home tree growers.

forget this helicopter idea. if you are only going to move air you have to have warm air to move and that is not the case. The big fans really do almost nothing except when there is "ground frost" frost where the cold air hugs the ground even after the sun comes up and the top of the trees are starting to warm up. Not to mention helicopters are very expensive to operate and could not even close to justify the cost. It would be cheaper to do any number of other gargantuan measures rather that fly a helicopter, not to mention FAA flight rules about being close over houses.

Helicopters are used every year for frost abatement by many farmers. We hover in the temperature inversion layer where the air is warmer than the freezing air on the ground and keep crops from being damaged. I have been doing it for over five years and have saved farmers millions of dollars so the cost is worth it to most farmers. As far as the FAA goes we operate within the regulations and guide lines at all times. The houses that are close to the orchards know it is a part of farming and when they chose to live next to a farm they had to know there would be occasional noises due to normal farm operations. A helicopter is actually much more effective and environmentally friendly than most other frost abatement measures. There are many examples of how helicopters are used to aid farmers. Type in helicopter frost abatement or control/patrol into a search engine and you can see for yourself how helicopters are helping. Most people who don't like helicopters say they are too noisy but the amount of time you actually hear the helicopters is very short.
