The fatal words, "self watering pot". Citrus do NOT like to have wet feet. Water from the top. Make sure you're seedling is in very well draining potting mix. You can search for either "511" or "gritty mix" on this forum for suggestions on great well draining mixes you can easily make up yourself. And, you definitely need to fertilize on regular intervals. Most indoor container citrus folks on this forum prefer to use Dya Gro's "Foliage Pro" water soluble fertilizer as it has the correct NPK ratio as well as all the micronutrients citrus need. Plus, the N will not burn your container citrus.

Thanks a lot I'll be sure to follow your recommendations. Thankfully the pot can be used as a regular one too, the self watering portion will just hold the excess water from when I water it from the top.

Another question I have is when do you know it's time for a bigger pot?

The other disadvantage to these types of pots is that dissolved salts will just get reabsorbed from the roots of your trees which will eventually kill them instead of being watered through and out and away as they should be.
