I have been asking for advise in regards to my particular Meyer Lemon tree down in South West Florida

The little tree is flourishing
and seems happy with the care it receives.
Which is so far minimal
Problem is
along the young trunk, in many spots shoots keep coming off the main trunk RIght from down near the ground and up to where the trunk branches
I keep breaking them off and use the little new leaves for flavoring in cooking
I would like to know though, why is this happening
and is tere anything that I could do.
