This is my mandarin and it was ok and then someone said to much water the. It rained a lot but now the older leaves are curling inwards and the new growth is bright green with a slight yellowing. It got 1/3 of the recommend citrus/avacodo fert mix

I would fertilize with the proper amount of fertilizer and water it in. Then, I would check the soil about 18" down to see if your tree really needs watering. Just because someone looks at your tree and tells you to water it may not make it so :-) You really need to check the soil so you know how frequently you need to water, as everyone's soils are different. If you're on clay soil, your soil may retain more water, and you don't want to end up overwatering your tree. Also, I would remove the weeds from around your tree and put down some mulch to discourage weed/grass growth which will compete for nutrients. Just keep the mulch away from the trunk to discourage moisture from being trapped around the trunk.

What Patty S. said. Just to add, one thing surprising thing I learned about citrus, the branch can look stone dead and the next thing you know it is sprouting leaves everywhere. Leave it a while, you can always trim off dead stuff come Autumn.

In future, planting in unamended soil is a good idea. Clay soil is very, very good soil--it is loaded with nutrients (unlike sand) and it retains moisture (great where water is precious). Humans don't like clay because it's hard to dig--many plants love clay just fine. You just need to water carefully and place your plant at the appropriate level in the ground.

Thanks everyone. The over watering came from a past post the tips of the leaves were browning. Now there curling up inward. That's the mandarin. I do have mulch on top, did autum since the last few weeks a lot of rain so those weeds are new pulling this weekend if dry..I check the soil ph and for depth of mositure. But only about 14inches. Everything tests 6.5 or 7 ph.
