It is very likely the tree would suffer under that load and It would be hard to put it back if you had to. Wait till the fruit is ripe and picked then remove it. The tree will grow in it's ability to hold a load of fruit as the fruit starts small and grows in weight.

Well since I've never tasted it I don't think it will help :) Anyway, from what I've seen I believe that those fruits are already ripe. Most if it. I'm just not sure yet if I should remove fruits and trellis.I'm afraid it will be disastrous..

I think they are past ripeness when that bright orange. Taste, then see if quality is good enough use for cooking, marmalade, etc. Beautiful plant!

Well I've heard that it's not recommended to eat fruit that are already grown when bought.... Because you can never know what the plant was sprayed with before buying it... anyway, the question still remains:should I remove the trellis and fruit?

If it was my citrus I'd leave the trellis on. Even temporary.

After fruit drops, you can experiment. Remove the trellis to see how foliage holds up.

Like you, I wouldn't eat first fruit either. You're right, one never knows which chemicals are sprayed, or if any, but I wouldn't take the chance. Toni

If you're not going to eat the fruit, no need to ascertain if it's ripe or not. Remove the fruit prompty. It's just wasting energy otherwise, when the plant could be flowering or growing foliage instead.

Well thanks everyone, I just did it and I'm happy to see that branches are stronger than I thought :) Here's a photo of my calamondin after everything :) So glad I did it!
