The only difference is you will need to perform more regular root maintenance with standard trees because the roots will become root bound faster. At least, that's the way I understand it.

Kris is correct, much more work with a standard in a container. Not only root trimming, but significantly more pruning could be in order with a cultivar on standard rootstock. I would opt to select true dwarf rootstocks (Fly Dragon or Cuban Shaddock, Four Winds uses the latter for many of their citrus cultivars). Fruiting is actually more precocious on semi-dwarfing rootstocks for the most part (Carrizo, Troyer, C35, for example), but the longevity of the tree overall may be shorter than for standard rootstocks (that info is based on in-ground citrus). I have all semi-dwarfing roostocks for my container citrus as well as for most of my in-ground citrus.

I have learned that even the "non-dwarf" trees I have referred to are actually on semi-dwarf rootstock.

So basically my choices are semi-dwarf and flying dragon rootstock.

It sounds like the flying dragon would be ideal and more suited to containers but the semi-dwarf options would be fine if necessary?
