Could be spider mites. Have you tried washing them off? Mites like things dry and dirty (dusty); I find that a good wash with the hose once a week or so goes a long way to avoiding these type bugs.

oh yes it is spider mites. the link is kind of what it looks like, although not as much. i'm actually growing it in my dorm room, which is super dry and also very dusty. i try to spray it with a spray bottle a few times a day but maybe i need to wash it down with a wet rag?

Wash your tree off outside with a hard blast of water, then tree with horticultural oil, taking care to cover the leaves top and bottom, stems, branches, trunk and top of soil. That'll do it for you.

Or put it in the tub and give it a shower... same game different location. Spider mites are difficult to see without a 10X glass; but the symptoms are easy to recognize.
