Can anyone identify this root stock?

Posted by lindseylu 7 (My Page) on

Hello,

I have a small Washington navel orange tree (purchased in California) which has begun sprouting branches from its root stock. The leaves have three parts and there are thorns on the new branches. Can anyone tell me what kind of citrus tree my root stock is? (Please see attached photo.)

*Thank you* in advance if you can help!
Lindsey :)

Hi,

It's Poncirus Trifoliata (Trifoliate Orange) I believe.

A good link is below

Citrusboy

Here is a link that might be useful: Leaf image and rootstock info

You rock, Citrusboy! I checked your link and I am positive my root stock is Trifoliate Orange. Now I know who the "mom" of my orange tree is! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! I really appreciate the help.

I don't think it's pure Poncirus, since the terminal leaflet is significantly bigger than the two on the sides. More likely 'Troyer' or some other citrange (Poncirus x sweet orange hybrid).
