Osmocote Plus replacement?

I've been lurking here for awhile. I'm new to citrus-- I currently own 2 Meyer Lemons a calamondin and a key lime. The lime and one of the lemons followed me home recently.

I'm fertilizing with Foliage Pro, but need a long acting--especially now that they are outside in all this rain. I've looked all over for the Osmocote, but the Scott's site says it's discontinued.

Does anyone have an alternative they like? Thanks in advance!

Good question, Sharon. I would check out Scott's Miracle Gro Shake & Feed for Citrus & Mangos. Cannot find the formulation on their website (which is really odd - a manufacturer should have that on their own site for goodness' sake), but check out to see how close the NPK ratio comes to 5-1-3, and if this product has the full lineup of micros, including calcium. It is only a 3 month extended release product, so not quite as good as Osmocote Plus was, and very disappointed that Scott has discontinued this product, but this might be an possible alternative.

I have been using this. Miracle grow with calcium
The NPK is 9-4-12 with micros including Magnesium and Calcium. I have never used it alone so I have no experience with that. I use it along side Foliage pro.

I pay $12 for it at lowes, walmart, Home depot.

Not enough Nitrogen, Mike. Your ratios should be reversed. You want to shoot for a 5-1-3 ratio. Great for tomatoes and will stave off blossom end rot, but not the best choice for citrus. The NPK for their Shake n'Feed for Citrus & Mangos is much higher, but don't know if it has calcium in the micro lineup. Thinking it probably doesn't. But, I'd trade more N for Ca, which can easily be added with other supplements, if it is needed. Usually there is enough calcium in our municipal water to satisfy citrus.

Ill see if I can find the kind your are talkibng about but I doubt I can around here.

Foliage pro is 9-3-6. thats why I thought this being 9-4-12 would be ok especially not as the only source. Unfortunately most place here dont stock "citrus" specific stuff. Miracle Gro has one with a 12 4 8 ratio and the same micros but it also has those stupid moisture control things in it.

Thanks so much, Patty and Mike. I don't think I've seen those MG products. I will definitely look for those this weekend.

Mike, I think I'll have to try that version on some of my tomatoes. Curious to see how it compares to Tomato Tone, now that it has been reformulated. Wish they would just leave my fertilizers alone! ;-)
