Weird orange growth on Kaffir lime

Hey all,

I just noticed a couple of days ago that there is a weird bumpy layer of orange growth on my Kaffir lime tree branch at the very top of the tree. It hasn't gotten bigger or changed at all since I first noticed it. I tried to scrape it gently with my fingernail and it holds without any damage. That's the only area on the tree that has it. Otherwise, the tree is doing really well and have recently had a growth spurt, holding on to all of its new leaves. Sorry, I didn't have time to take a picture of the whole tree this morning. The photo is of the orange growth.

Anyone encounter this before? Any information would be greatly appreciated!!

Yes, it does look like a bunch of small scales from the picture. It actually resembles scarring, except for the orange coloring. I've had a few experiences (unfortunately) with scale and have a tree that has a mild infestation that's isolated right now so I'm quite confident its not scale. Any ideas?
The picture actually didn't look fuzzy until I posted it.. wierd. Okay, I'll take a new pictures when I get home. Thanks!
