| Hi,
I have a Eureka Lemon tree (plant?). Pics at http://picasaweb.google.com/bhatiap/EurekaLemon?feat=directlink I planted this about 2.5 years ago. Since then it has grown from being about 1 foot to about 3 feet tall. But lately I have seen that the lower leaves have turned yellow. The top leaves have some yellowing. Is this yellowing normal? I read in another post that citrus leaves last 18-24 months. Is this why the lower leaves have turned yellow? I have never used any fertilizer. Never had any fruit on this tree ( I figured it still too small for that!). Had some flowers last fall but they just fell off. Never used any fertilizer either. Will adding fertilizer help with the yellow leaves or with the fruit? I haven't taken good care of this plant but want to do so now. Please advise. thanks. |

| There could be a reason...Maybe your tree is starving for nitrogen? Some citrus are just hogs for the nutruient! You can count out Iron, because the newer leaves can noy Another possibility...Are the lower leaves getting plenty of sunlight? Have you let the tree dry out to frequently beyond dry? Seems a deep watering once every 2 weeks during dry spells night not be enough.. Some trees just by nature grow lush and green without much work like my lime and grapefruit trees...Then some such as my ponderosa and lemon trees yellow up on the slightest lack of fertilizer, too high of Ph, to much water, too little, temp flucuations, and so on.. This is just a start... |

| So I should add a fertilizer with Nitrogen and water more? What confuses me is that it seems that watering too much or not watering enough both seem to cause leaves to yellow. How do I find out which one is it? Thanks for your response. |

| You could dig into the root zone and see how dry the soil is at the depth...You will definately know if the soil is moist or dry more than a foot down.. Mike |
