Bug People Help, Please - Orange Oil?

A while ago, I'd asked for suggestions on how to get rid of tiny ants on a rescued satsuma. At the time, no other bugs could be seen. Well.... now it looks like scale is showing, mostly on the underside of a few branches, and none on the leaves. Guess this is what was attracting the crazy ants.... Has anyone successfully used orange oil for scale? I used to use it on spider mites and it worked well. Scale is a new problem for me. This is an outdoor container Seto (about 5 years old). I sprayed it tonight with a ratio of 2 oz. orange oil/one gallon water. Is there a change this will work or must I shell out the 15 bucks for NEEM oil? Also, should I bring it inside to protect it from direct sunlight while there is oil on it? Is dappled sunlight ok right now? I avoided the new growth. Thanks in advance.
