Rabbits??

My mandarin orange pot has two fruit the size of a large marble hanging just 6 inches or so from the ground. I have a number of rabbits who have decided my yard is their home. Should I protect my citrus from the critters? I also have other wild animals around as well like possum, skunk, squirrels, but not deer so far.

Opossum will eat citrus; rats will eat citrus; deer especially fond of Meyer lemon leaves; but I don't think rabbits eat citrus.

What about squirrels? Is it worth putting a little chicken wire around the plant or is that just a waste of time? I was gone all week and the mandarins have grown a tiny bit but are still there!

chicken wire is just a ladder for squirrels and rats. I have lots of squirrels in my gardens; but I have never had a problem with them as to my citrus
