Valencia Orange Tree, leaf drop

Hey guys -- I bought a healthy Valencia Orange tree last fall and planted it along with a Meyer lemon tree in my backyard here in So Cal.

The orange tree had a huge amount of flowers in January-March here, and when the flowering died off, a pretty noticeable leaf drop occurred, too. Since then, it's looked like a pretty scrawny tree, although the leaves that are still on there are healthy and green. The Meyer lemon tree is on the exact same water line and is doing great and didn't have a leaf drop at all really.

Any ideas on what happened? Will the leaves eventually come back? When?

Sounds like a bit of transplant shock, sandiegodude. Keep fertilizing it and watch for a new leaf flush in the next few weeks, when we get our second leaf flush. Protect it from CLM by spraying with Spinosad and Volk Oil (as lont as your temps as below 86 degrees and the flowers are done.)

Can trees have transplant shock almost a year later? Maybe its just old leaves shedding the tree? Were the leaves that dropped old or new leaves? Either way Peggy is right, look for new growth:-)
