squirrels?

Do squirrels eat citrus? I am infested with squirrels. I have 3 citrus trees growing nicely in whiskey barrels on my patio. Last year I put moth cakes in the barrels in the fall, and had no problem with squirrels. But is it necessary? Is there a better way to prevent squirrels eating the fruit.?

Yes. Squirrels will eat anything/everything. You can try humane trapping (Have-a-Heart traps), but know that you may not be able to legally release them (many places in the country, including mine, do not allow you to release them in other areas, as they are considered pests - you must dispatch with them once trapped), poison bait traps, a pellet gun or .22 (if you are allowed to shoot in your area) are all options. I have never had success with moth balls, but if that is working for you, I would continue to do that.
