Kumquats do not grow well on there own roots from see and probably not from cuttings.

1) The roots are very slow growing and this seems to limit how fast the tops can gow.
2) The roots seem to have problems getting their micronutrients.

I could see no problems such as week roots as far a disease goes, or even strength for holding the plant up. they seem to have no drought problems.

When the tree was inside and had no root demand stress the tree grew as fast ,as 1.5 inches per week. , My conclusion is that the kumquat tree should definitely be on another root stock.

I would strongly advise purchasing a grafted tree.
