It is possible, photos would help us to better diagnose your problem, though. What type of soil do you have? Have you checked the roots to see if they are indeed, rotting? They would be brownish or black, not white. How soggy is the soil down about 12" at the drip line? Are you drip watering your tree, or is the trunk being hit by a sprinkler? A few more pieces of info will help us to help you :-)

I will try to post pics, the leaves are folding along the middle and are yellow. How can I look at roots? do i need to pull the plant up? soil doesnt seem to be soggy, I pushed a thin stick, after watering, ant it was just moist.
