I wouldn't worry about it until next year this time ... it was shipped, repotted and needs some time to recover.

It's never a good idea to force a plant into accelerated top growth. Don't forget that the root growth is every bit as important as the foliage; we forget that sometimes!

Another thing to remember is when we push for accelerated vegetative growth, it will be at the sacrifice of normal root development. That's never a good thing. The plant can't do both things at the same time. Achieving balanced, normal growth is what you should strive for.

Can you post a photo? Without seeing it, at best a guess.... I would guess your tree has already been pushed by the grower; some growers think the trees sell better if they have already a fruit or two.
You transplanted it, I assume again, into a larger pot; so the roots need to grow into the new soil (and absence of fertilizer encourages that root growth). After the roots grow, then the leaves and branches will grow; and when that starts is the time to fertilize.
Since you just bought it, I would think it is too small to support fruit; and if you leave the fruit, the tree will put its energy into the fruit and "forget" to grow. I would take off all the fruit; and then just keep it watered until it starts to grow. Meyers typically have several growth spurts (flushes) per year.

More concerned that there hasn't been leaf growth then actually intending to force growth. Probably overly concerned since I came really close to killing my prior tree over last winter.

thanks John, much appreciated...especially coming from you. i dont know if i have it in me to pull off the golf ball sized fruits (or two other smaller ones). My kid is very proud of those lemons on "her" tree.

You can "harvest" the larger fruits; they will have juice and will already be better than most of the lemons in the world.

Leave the smaller fruits if you like; the tree can still grow with those.

I live in a lemon culture... lemon on everything; and a lot of the lemons we use in the house come from early harvest fruit from thinning my garden trees.
