If you're in a canker quarantine area, you would not be permitted to plant. If outside such an area, there is always the danger that canker will be found near you, in which case the tree would have to be destroyed. But that's a gamble you may wish to take.

It is risky to have citrus trees in South Florida now, due to the constant threat of losing them. It forced me to "branch out" into non-citrus fruit trees so I would be able to somewhat handle the destruction of my treasured trees. I have savage Mastiffs and crazy people with loaded guns patrolling my orchard(G). Just kidding!

I have over 40 citrus and my compensation if they are destroyed by the State is piddly vouchers to scummy WalMart.

Did you check to see if you are in a quarantine area?

Lisa, are you kidding about vouchers for walmart (I refuse to spell that name with capital letters)? The state of Florida, can't be that low, or can it? - Millet

Hi Millet it is true & from what I hear they can only be used at the garden center. Something like $100 for the first tree & $50 for every other they take...
