please tell me about Fremont Mandarin.

I bought a dwarf "Fremont Mandarin" because the local nurseries were out of Murcott, which is my favorite citrus for eating.

What may I expect from my Fremont Mandarin regarding:

mature size of tree.
length of bearing season
taste. Does it have a complex flavor or is it mostly just sweet?

Thanks all,

P.S. Glory be! I did find and purchased a Murcott mandarin at last from Orchard Hardware.

I dont have much to say about that type, I am interested to see what others have to say about it.

It is a great mandarin - I have eaten some fruits at my local farmers market. It was very flavorful and a little smallish, definitely delicious.
I was recommended this tree when I asked this question on the california forum. I have not yet bought the tree because the fruit has seeds and I am trying to grow all seedless varieties (picky family members!).

thanks ashleysf,

that's good to know. seeds don't bother me as long as the fruit is delicious.
I've always preferred watermelon that has seeds because I find it to be more flavorful.

Fremont is a nice mandarin, luxrosa. It is medium sized mandarin, pretty easy to peel, tender, juicy and has a very good flavor. It's a bit on the seedy side, but I will always sacrifice seeds for flavor :-) It is an earlier ripening mandarin, and the fruit stays extremely well on the tree past picking time, which I think is a big bonus (i.e., store your fruit on the tree). Also, the tree is nearly thornless, another plus :-) It is very productive and will set fruit early on as a young tree. It does very well in our hot interior areas of California, the desert and out in AZ, but watch to make sure the fruit don't get sunburned.
