Save my citrus!

Hi, so my citrus tree is over 20 years old, well established in my back garden, always been healthy. Two weeks ago, my mother trimmed it down a bit (it had been getting a bit too large to maintain), and there didn't seem to be any negative effects. Two days ago, the leaves started wilting considerably. It's been a rapid change, and I'm really quite worried. Does anyone have any clues as to what it could be/how to fix it? I really don't want to lose the plant.

Just some other info that could be of use: It's planted straight into the ground (clay soil), drainage has never been an issue. We've received healthy amount of rainfall over the last few weeks, and the last few days have been fairly hot and dry, but nothing the plant hasn't experienced before.
