My best guess, without more information, is you are over feeding your tree. I have found it nearly impossible to over feed a Meyer planted in the ground; but when I have done it intentionally in field trials, I got something that looked like that.

Reddish tinge on new leaves is normal

This looks like aphid damage to me. Or, possibly overfertilizing (too much nitrogen). You didn't tell us what citrus this is, but lemons and some other citrus cultivars normally have reddish tinged new growth.

Hello everyone, thanks so much for your replies. I actually don't know what kind of lemon tree it is, it was there when I bought the house but i think its a ponderosa because the lemons are huge, thick thick rind (like 1-3 inches thick) and very sour. I like them nonetheless as I can use the skin for baking. I am grafting some other varieties onto it.

I actually have been fertilizing the tree about every two weeks with citrus fertilizer by Ednas best (the powder fertilizer). I switch off between that and fish emulsion and Kelp. Maybe I'll give it a rest the next month.

I will let you know how it goes.

I feel silly not knowing new leaves flush out red, thanks for letting me know. I did get another comment from someone saying to look out for baby snails as this might be the culprit as well.

Every two weeks for in-ground citrus is too often IMHO. I do it about 3 times a year.

3 to 4 times a year, as serge mentioned is plenty. If you notice your lemon tree getting a little cholorotic, then you can apply 1 more application, as lemons can be very heavy bearing and need a little more fertilizer than other citrus cultivars, in my experience. But, yes, too much of a good thing, I think.

a good recommendation for fertilizing citrus is Valentines day, Mothers day and fathers day. My preference is a 15-5-10 with the trace elements (lawn and grass fertilizer)
