Rooting a Calamondin Cutting

Posted by magna67 (My Page) on

Hi all, I have owned a Calamondin Lemon Tree for a little over a year. Recently, a series of branches have become ready to be cut, and re-rooted. Firm, green, leafy stems. I live in the Maritimes, in Canada, therefore I do not own a greenhouse, nor am I able to plant this tree outside at virtually anytime of the year, and I don't have a misting system. I'm basically hoping that I can simply cut this stem off, and plant it in well-fertilized soil suitable to rooting this tree and have it catch, and begin growing. Will I be able to do this, and keep the cutting in a warm, well-lit area of my home, or will this just kill that stem? Thanks for the responses.

RE: Rooting a Calamondin Cutting

I thought calamondins were bitter oranges not lemons but I could be wrong. If you get a cutting, I would suggest dipping in some root hormone before placing in soil. Maybe MeyerMike or someone with more experience can suggest the proper procedure.
