Are all mandarins alternate bearing?

Or to phrase it in other words: is there a mandarin that will bear each year?? I just figured that one mandarin that I have in a pot is fruiting this year and did nothing last year and then did a google search and sure enough - learnt about "alternate bearing". Please share your knowledge on this subject.

RE: Are all mandarins alternate bearing?

Ashley,

I am still in the learning process about
"manderins" in general, myself..

I do know that the "owarai satsuma" can be a very consistant bloomer and fruit bearer, with better yields in some years than others. But they are most popular.

If you want a sweeter one, then try a "page manderin". You would probably want to use a 'dancy manderin" or a "velencia orange" as a pollenator for this one..They can produce every other year, but boy are the fruits sweet and worth it!

That is all I know...Sorry i couldn't help any further..

I personally tend to favor the trees that give me the most blossoms, sometimes twice or more times a year, since I don't really eat the fruit. But I have had a bite of the sweet manderin..Yum

You can get this one at "Four Winds" at fruit bearing stage already.

Mike..:-)

I don't know what variety satsuma I have but when I moved into our home it put on about 50+ fruit and since then we are getting a few hundred every year.
