Carrizo Citrange

This Carrizo citrange is somewhat new to me. It's reported to be a Poncirus trifoliata x Washington naval. What's the point in this hybrid ... an experiment? Is there some sort of purpose or point, perhaps a better root stock? I can't imagine the fruit being edible and the overall look of it is no different than Poncirus. Why not stick with regular Poncirus for a root stock?
Cheers, Barrie.
