Variegated Eureka - limb/bud sports?

I have something strange going on with my tree and wonder how common this might be.
A bud sported a limb that is now maybe 1 foot long, has a dozen or so leaves, and is flowering at the tip. The wood and the leaves are all a creamy white color - there is no other color. The leaves don't look very healthy (curled in a little) but the limb seems to be doing OK and the leaves are not dropping.
Is this more or less normal/common for the Variegated Eureka? Has anyone tried to make a whole tree like this? I'm always looking to do something wacky!
