Is it Tristeza virus?

Hi all,
I bought a Clementine tree at walmart about 2 months ago with a plan of grafting other varieties to make a fruit salad tree. I got some Dancy grapefruit buds from a friend and used a T graft to attach. A week after doing this my leaves started to lighten, wilt, curl longitudinally, and die. Now even the stems at the top of the tree are dying. Could this be Tristeza virus? I've tried everything else I can think of to help this little tree.
The Dancy is at least 20 years old and grows where an old orange grove was. Is there a possibility it could be infected without showing signs? Is there anything I can do? I would hate to lose this nice tree out of pure stupidity.

I'm not sure what the problem is,but it's almost certainly not tristeza -- there just was not enough time involved. Considering the speed and the symptoms, I'm thinking more likely some sort of root rot, from overwatering perhaps?

Malcolm,

Thanks for the reply. All I have left is about 3 inches of live tree above the rootstock. I tried rinsing the roots and re potting in a better citrus mix. The roots looked and smelled good. Soil is damp but not wet. No critters on the poor little tree. I guess over watering must be the answer. Is there any other suggestion you might have? Do you think it might come back?

At this stage the only other possible solution would be is to apply some bottom heat.
