Orange tree

I dont know what kind of orange tree i have, but can someone tell me whan is the best time fo picking them. They ar thin skined and do not have a very sweet taste.they get the yellow skin in december the tree is about 4 years oldand about 10 ft, tall by about as much wide. Last wear i made juce from them but was i little bitter,

Sounds like you might have a navel orange? Do your oranges have little navels on the bottom and no seeds? If so, navel oranges usually come ripe around December/January. You can juice them, but the juice will not refrigerate well, as navel oranges contain a higher amount of limonin and other limonoids than say, Valencia oranges, which causes the juice to become bitter when refrigerated. Navel oranges are not suitable for juicing, but Valencia oranges certainly are (they are known as the juice orange.) Valencia oranges will not ripen until the summer. As early as March, but for us in California, better in May/June.
